PServesU
PServesU is a one-day service experience open to ALL students.
Participants will:
1. Learn about themselves, others, and community needs.
2. Serve the local and regional community.
3. Lead the change through ongoing involvement.
PServesU is not your typical day of service. While students are given the opportunity to dedicate their day to serving the surrounding community, PServesU also focuses on educating participants on the community need. Participants serve in a small group setting (group of 40 students or less), which allows them to build strong relationships. After participating in PServesU, we hope that students will continue to volunteer their time to help and improve the lives of others.
For more information, contact Outreach Director Lauren Kelly or call (814) 863- 4624.

O-An Zendo |
Saturday October 15th
For our first PServesU of the fall 2016 semester, we served at the Columbus Chapel and Boal Mansion Museum. This site aims to promote art, history, and education. The Boal Mansion was descended through 8 generations of the Boals who were connected to many famous people including past Presidents. The Columbus Chapel is a Chapel that the Christopher Columbus family imported from Spain, containing the Admiral's Desk of Christopher Columbus, fine European art and two pieces of the True Cross of Jesus. Very cool place! Our volunteers spent the day doing upkeep around the site including raking leaves, filling potholes, and dissembling tents and stages from an event that the site hosted. Our efforts helped the site's leaders focus on fulfilling the mission of the organization! |
Saturday September 5th
Our fourth PServesU was a day of Interfaith Service at O-An Zendo in Julian PA. O-An Zendo is a small meditation center offering seclusion and harmony with the natural landscape. Focusing on Zen Buddhism, O-An Zendo welcomes all interested in meditation regardless of background and or style of practice. PServesU volunteers went on a guided meditation walk. They also helped clean and created a garden on the property. This service has allowed O-An Zendo to continue its work by creating a beautiful area for individuals to meditate and appreciate nature. |
Gita Nagari Yoga FarmSaturday October 11th & Saturday February 14th
Our first and third PServesU were days of interfaith service at Gita Nagari Yoga Farm in Port Royal. This farm runs on the principle of love, care, and respect for all human beings. The farm's main missions are farming, nature, service, and caring for all of their cows. PServesU participants served the farm by helping clean the farm's property. This clean up has helped the farm sustain their business and its mission statement. Participants not only served the farm, but were also educated on the farm's self-sustaining practices. |
The Faith CentreFriday November 14th
Our second PServesU took place at The Faith Centre in Bellefonte. The Faith Centre is a thrift store and food bank that serves the needs of Bellefonte and Centre County. PServesU volunteers served The Faith Centre by organizing the thrift store. This service allowed the Centre to further help the surrounding community. Participants of this afternoon of service learned the mission of the The Faith Centre, and its thrift store and food bank. |
